Swim safely, train and compete

The philosophy for the camps is simple –  reduce fear, increase confidence and improve in the open water.

In our years competing, We saw individuals nervous in the water then saw them cycling and running confidently. At the end of every race we would chat to participants and hear their frustration and disappointment that the open water slows them down. Or worse, friends and colleagues not even contemplating a triathlon or multi sport race due to their fear of the open water.

During our camps you are coached in the open water, watched over by our safety staff. These guided and enjoyable swims will improve your technique and confidence in the water.  You are competing in Irish waters so it makes sense to be confident in our native seas and rivers.

From beginners who have never stepped outside the swimming pool to those who want to increase their competitiveness at an elite level, there is a camp that is right for you.

We have over 40 years experience in training and coaching people to reach their potential. Our leadership, enthusiasm and love of the open water will help you become the sea swimmer you want to be.

Mairtín Coffey

Owner & Founder

Máirtín, a native of the land locked county of Kildare, found his initial love of the sea when he moved to Galway in 1999. His first triathlon TriAthy in 2007 began his competitive journey into open water swimming. He completed numerous triathlons and adventure races over the coming years. In 2011 he completed Ironman Galway 70.3. He went on to compete for his triathlon club in the Triathlon National series events and this culminated with him representing Ireland as an age group triathlete in London in 2013. On the arrival of his second child and the departure of his free time he focused his love of triathlon and swimming on coaching. He has completed a Triathlon Ireland Level 2 Coaching course and a Swim Ireland Level 1 Teaching qualification. Máirtín’s competitive streak remains strong and he is aiming to complete the 13km Galway bay swim in 2016.

Paddy McNamara

Swim Director

Paddy has been involved with swimming since the early 1970s, first as a competitive swimmer and then as a teacher. He is a member of Galway Swimming Club. He is also a member of Corrib Waterpolo Club due to their involvement in open water swimming during the summer months. Paddy has a background in Physical Training and was instrumental in developing land based gym, strength and conditioning work with Galway swimming Club. His real love is open water swimming and he organises the annual league in Galway, is involved in the organisation and running of the Frances Thornton Memorial Galway Bay Swim 13 K and the Longest Day Swim in the River Corrib. His strength is to make swimmers more confident in rough conditions whilst focusing on slight improvements than enable greater gains to be made.

Savage Day. Well run. Gave me extra confidence to go and book my swims for rest of season. You’ll see me again for a 2 day before summer is over. Well worth it. Thank You.

I attended the taster camp and thought it was really great. Perfect for anyone wanting to improve their open water swimming. Lots of great points to implement, great feedback and vastly improved my sighting! Great swim in Salthill. I particularly loved the swim trek down the Corrib. Stunning! Thank you!

Today was fantastic. Well organised from start to finish. I enjoyed every minute. I felt safe and not worried. Paddy and martin are fantastic and the sea and river swims were exhilarating. Great bunch of people taking part and well worth the trip. Thanks so much.
